Maywood Park kicks off its first Friday night card of the New Year with a $12,000 “Winner’s Over” race for ICF filly and mare pacers,
The 2-1 morning line favorite in the ninth race feature is the now 5-year-old mare Fox Valley Touche, who hasn’t made a lot of career starts at Maywood but when she has, the Joel Smith trainee has fared very well on the circuit’s half-miler.
Last season when she won over $80,000 for owners Paula Smith of Valparaiso, Indiana and James Runyan of Lake Villa, Illinois, Fox Valley Touche was a solid second to Mystical Victress in Maywood’s $38,735 Violet for older mares in late June.
A week later “Touche” won a high-level conditioned event in 1:56 flat on the Melrose Park, IL oval.
In her 3-year-old campaign when she won 6 of 18 starts and knocked down $134,469 in purse earnings, she started at Maywood three times and came away a victory in each, taking the $101,000 Maywood Filly Pace in 1:54 flat and a pair of smaller ICF filly stakes, the Desperate Lady and the Crestwood OTB.
In her first season when she was won over $159,000 and annexed the $218,000 Orange and Blue Filly crown at Balmoral, Fox Valley Touche took her Violet elimination before dropping a neck decision to Pardon in Maywood’s Violet Final.
When Trace Tetrick takes her away from the three-slot in Friday’s headliner, “Touche” will be looking for victory No. 19 in 61 career starts while looking to pad her money won earnings of $375,478.
The mare with the highest career earnings in the ninth race is LR Dancing Queen. The 7-2 second program choice has $434,913 banked. This will be the 7-year-old mare’s first start since mid-October.
LR Dancing Queen was second best on Super Night in the Propes Final behind Mystical Victress. Last year the Nick Giberson trainee she made $84,022 while splitting her time racing on the east coast and here in the Midwest. Her next win will be her 30th of her career.
The Mike Schulfer Stable’s Fox Valley Absolut (8-1) is seeking her 25th lifetime win when she sprints out from post six for regular driver Bobby Smolin. The 7-year-old daughter of Sportsmaster has amassed earnings of $335,481.
Tillyfilly (20-1, John Roberts), Yippy (15-1, Kyle Husted), Tamarac Sassy (9-2, Casey Leonard), Let’s Go Higher (6-1, John De Long) and Melodie Hotspur (15-1, Ross Leonard) complete the Friday feature.
Mike Oosting and Angie Affrunti will be honored in the winner’s circle Friday. Mike captured his first Maywood Park driving title in 2012 while Angie was the runaway winner of last year’s trainer’s race last year, also her first Maywood crown.
In 2011 Fox Valey Touche won the $101,000 Maywood Filly Pace.
