Short Break Starts Sunday (01/29/13)

Harness racing on the Chicago circuit will take a short break starting this weekend with Super Bowl Sunday.

There will be no live racing at either Balmoral or Maywood Parks from Sunday, February 5 through Tuesday, February 12. Racing will then resume with Balmoral’s Wednesday, February 13.

According to the latest circuit’s conditioned sheet, there will be no qualifying races on either Wednesday, February 6 or Thursday, February 7. The draw for the Wednesday, February 13 card will take place on Friday, February. 8.

Hot Barn: The weather in January may be cold but horses racing out of the barn of trainer Angie Affrunti have been hot.

The Joliet native had16 winners going into Wednesday’s Balmoral card and they came in the stable’s first 42 starts of the year. Affrunti also has 4 seconds and 5 thirds and her UTRS rating for thus far for this month is .474.

All Aces: The move to The Meadowlands to compete in some of its lucrative winter series has proven to be very rewarding venture for William McIntyre who purchased Holdingallthecards in early June of 2012 before the then un-raced pacer worked his way up to the Balmoral’s Invitational ranks under the care of trainer Bob Phillips of Crete.

While Holdingallthecards had a very solid season for his Wisconsin owner, winning 12 of 21 starts and earning $61,331 on the Crete big track, the horse is well on his way to putting up much bigger numbers as a 4-year-old.

Holdingsallthecards already has $56,700 on his 2013 card after sweeping the New Jersey track’s Clyde Hirt Series.

His 1:51.1 win in last Saturday’s $67,400 Final made Holdingallthecards a perfect 4-for-4 thus far racing for former Illinois-based trainer Scott Di Domenico and Prairie State native driver Tim Tetrick.

Holdingallthecards dominance in the Clyde Hirt series makes him one of the favorites to rake in more east coast money in the Exit 16 Series which gets under way on Saturday at The Big M.
