Winning Steak on the Line (03/12/13)

Posted Tuesday, March 12, 2013

                                                By Mike Paradise

After three weeks on the sidelines the red-hot Celebrity Hercules returns to competition in Wednesday’s “Winner’s Over” top-level trot feature at Balmoral Park.

The 5-year-old son of Kadabra brings a five-racing streak into the fifth race $12,500 trot with the last three coming for his current owners Dandy Farms, Inc. of Glenview, Illinois.

Another victory Wednesday would give his owners the $24,000 return they paid for Celebrity Hercules at the mid-January Meadowlands Sale and it would have come in just four starts since joining the Erin Elliot Stable.

With “Winner’s over $11,000 in their last five starts” drawing outside in Wednesday’s headliner Celebrity Hercules was a “lock’ to draw the outside post (the eight) but the gelding is very familiar with it. The trotter has had the 7 or 8 slots in his first three starts since coming to our state.

Erin is obviously pleased with the arrival of Celebrity Hercules to her stable and with some other investments by her  Dandy Farms owners.

“I have to give credit to his owners (Jeff Davis and Matt Shipley) who not only went out and bought this good trotter Celebrity Hercules but also put a lot of cash into the business acquiring horses this year like Crime Of Passion and Firstclassallthway,” said Erin.

“These are horses with some back class and horses that they want to race here in Illinois.”

However, just how long Celebrity Hercules will compete in Illinois isn’t certain. Unless the top-level field of trotters at Balmoral Park improves, it may not be for very much longer.

Hoosier Park opens its meeting in three weeks (Tuesday, April 2) as strictly a harness racing facility and its Opens had been offering $20,000 pots.

Meanwhile Celebrity Hercules is listed as the 5-2 favorite in the morning line with John De Long catch-driving for Marcus Miller who is in New Jersey.

Starting inside of Celebrity Hercules (from the 1-slot out) are Mad Cow Lisa (programmed at 8-1, John Roberts), Evil Urges (7-2, Dave Magee), Fox Valley Arrow (10-1, Casey Leonard), Better In Texas (12-1, Trace Tetrick), Melt In Your Mouth (6-1, Sam Widger) and My Muscleman (9-2, Todd Warren).

Vacation Money: When the 12-1 longshot George’s Vacation drew off by 5 lengths in Sunday’s sixth race the $26.60 winner was a Mike’s Price Shot. Sunday’s other Price Shot Haileysheartdesire also won and paid $7.40 in the 10th race.
