Take Down The Flag
This son of Western Hanover raced for 11 years until the age of 12 in 2007 but his most significant victory came as a 3-year-old in 1998 in the $270,000 Windy City Pace Final (see photo above)..
On that night at Maywood Park Take Down The Flag came on with a rush in the lane to beat the public’s choice and home town favorite Taser Gun (Andy Miller) by 1 and 1/4 lengths in 1:54.3 for driver Paul MacDonnell.
That same year Take Down The Flag captured the $10,000 North American Cup Consolation. In 1998 he also won the $98,650 Simcoe Stake and his $91,500 Confederation Cup Elimination and had a career best season of earnings of $309.667.
Take Down The Flag would come back to race in a number of years on the Chicago circuit race for such Illinois trainers as Joe Anderson, Merv Chupp, Dave Mc Caffrey, Catrina Rucker, Jennifer Lappe, Joe Cassano and Darcy Pletcher.
Take Down The Flag finished his career with $864,720 and took his mark of 1:50 flat as a 5-year-old at Woodbine. Three seasons (2002, 2004 and 2005) the pacer had his fastest winning miles at Hawthorne.
