Trot Fudge Sundae Returns (04/28/13)

Posted Sunday April 28, 2013

                                                      By Mike Paradise

Trot Fudge Sundae, who made local history as the queen of the ICF freshman filly trotters, makes her 3-year-old debut Sunday evening in Balmoral Park’s $12,000 Koochie stake for state-breds.

The American Native filly exceeded all expectations when she dominated her 2-year-old division last season going 10-for-13 and pulling down $183,210 for Illinois owners Jim Bafia (Minnoka), Sam Daddono (Grant Park) and Gene Smith (Chicago).

Trot Fudge Sundae rattled off eight consecutive victories and became the first ICF trotter to win the American National 2-year-old filly trot championship in its long history. She also notched the Fox Valley Flan Final and both State Fair championships before being edged out by Little Ms Chrissy in the Lady Lincoln Land showdown.

However Hot Fudge Sundae bounced back to capture Balmoral’s Hanover and Violet crowns and went on to be named The Daily Journal newspaper’s Horse of the Year.

Among the six ICF fillies taking on Hot Fudge Sundae (programmed 9-5, Dave Magee) in the fifth race headliner are Sara the Spy (9-2, Dean Magee), Powerful Goddess (7-2, Mike Cox) and American Empress (6-1, Homer Hochstetler), the 1-2-3 finishers, in that order, in the April 14 Trotting Tilly stake at Balmoral.

They’ll be joined by Fox Valley Roxy (5-1, Mike Oosting), Bands Dee Dee (8-1, John De Long) and High Stepper (8-1, J D Finn).
