Balmoral Park will host thus far their best Saturday program of the season tomorrow night.
The 13-race card is without a single claiming race of any type. It’s headed by the circuit’s $17,000 Invitational, a trio of ICF 3-year-old stakes for pacers, a high-level conditioned pace for fillies and mares, and a couple of other strong conditioned pacers for “the boys” as well.
Thunder Steeler (programmed 7-2, freshman off a 1:50.1 victory last week in the Hoosier Park Invitational, is back in town to take on reigning Invite champion Fort Silky (3-1 Casey Leonard), in the ninth race headliner.
Firstclassaltheway (8-1, Kyle Husted), who posted 13 victories last season and 6 came in Balmoral Invites, makes his season debut for new connections. He was bought earlier this year by Dandy Farms of Glenview, IL and now races out of the Erin Elliott Stable. He landed the four-slot in Saturday’s Invite.
Lennox Blue Chip (10-1, Bobby Smolin), Time To Roll (6-1, Dave Magee), Peck Blue Chip (8-1, Todd Warren), Lucky Jet (5-1, Dave Magee) and Best Man Hanover (9-2, Mike Oosting) will also take on Fort Silky and Thunder Steeler.
When 16 ICF 3-year-old fillies passed the entry box the Betzotic stake was split into a pair of $10,000 divisions (races 3 and 5).
The first division early favorites are Direct Balance winner Big Zipper (Bobby Smolin) at 5-2 and Feel Like Dancing (Kyle Wilfong) at 7-2.
Fox Valley Isabela (12-1, Todd Warren), Special Rose (4-1, Brian Carpenter), Fox Valley Ruby (10-1, Dean Magee), Our Miss Kristy (6-1, Casey Leonard), Lizzabelle (8-1, Dale Hiteman) and Ryleigh’s Lilly (12-1, Mike Oosting) complete that field.
The Joel Smith Stable’s Dallas Jones is the 3-1 early choice in the second filly division with regular driver Casey Leonard. She’ll take on Mystical Danica (8-1, Mike Oosting), Aliyah Maria (12-1, J D Finn), Incredible Filly (4-1, Dave Magee), Campus Cutie (10-1, Kyle Wilfong), Five Stars Queen (5-1, Brian Carpenter), Zumba (8-1, Matt Krueger (8-1) and Thank You Doc (9-2, Dean Magee).
Last week’s one-two finishers in Maywood’s Taser Gun—Crankin’ It Up (programmed 4-1, Kyle Wilfong) and Shogun Shack (3-1, Mike Oosting) will knock heads again in the seventh race $12,000 Betzotic stake for ICF colts and geldings.
Big Brad, winner of Balmoral’s Taurus Bomber (5-2, Bobby Smolin) is among the challengers along with Kostas Wine (10-1, Dave Magee), Ready (6-1, Casey Leonard), Drunk On You (10-1, Dale Hiteman), Mystical Walker (9-2, Todd Warren) and Youmakemewanadance (4-1, Pat Curtin) who will be coupled with Crankin’ It Up.
The Steve Bauder Stable’s Sectionline Yankee (3-1, Todd Warren) is back from Indiana and heads up the $12,500 sixth conditioned race for fillies and mares without $15,000 in earnings in their last five starts.
Sectionline Yankee left Balmoral with a 1:52.1 winning mile with Warren on a March 30 conditioned pace. Now four, Sectionline Yankee was an eight-time winner as a 3-year-old and 4 of those victories came in Open Handicaps on the Crete big track.
Sectionline Yankee leaves from post three with Pretty Place (10-1) and Upfront Miss Major (6-1) to her left and Fox Valley Touche (6-1), Tweeds Fly N Star (12-1), Rev Me Up (4-1), Weekend Update (12-1), Peace (5-1), Tamarac Sassy (8-1) and Fox Valley Matinee (10-1) to her right.
