Owned and bred by the late Gale Kline of Centreville, Michigan this trotter had the distinction of winning the initial stake race on opening night (May 22) of 1992 when old. Sportsman’s Park was converted to a seven-eighths mile racetrack.
The race was the $84,000 Columbian Trot and it was contested at and one and one-half miles with no less than 14 Free For All starters competing.
Doug Hamilton rated Arnie’s Priority to a front-end winning time of 2:59 for trainer Monte Wolf, holding off the favorite Super Speedy by 3/4’s of a length. The then 4-year-old trotter was one of the longest shots of the race at 35-1 and paid $75.60 that early summer evening.
Arnie’s Priority only raced briefly into his 5-year-old season but still had 20 career victories and over $158,000 in earnings.
In 1992 the horse also won at Invitational at Balmoral Park and in 1993 captured another Invite at Hawthorne. Arnie’s Priority took his mark of 1:54.3 as a 3-year-old at The Red Mile.
