Looking Back to Park Place
This son of Artsplace out of the Most Happy Fella dam Deneen’s Delight has followed a very nice career on the racetrack with another as a sire.
Park Place raced from 1996 as a 2-year-old into 2002 when he made five starts as a nine-year-old. He finished is racing career with over $765,000 in purse earnings, 35 lifetime victories and a mark of 1:51 flat taken as a 3-year-old at The Meadowlands.
Park Place’s most productive year came in 1997 in his sophomore campaign when he hauled down $421,077 while competing against the very best 3-year-old open pacers in North America.
The horse won eliminations that year in the Meadowlands Pace, the Hoosier Cup and the Progress. Park Place that year also finished second to Arturo in the $500,000 Classic at The Big M and to Red Bow Tie in the $137,400 Matron.
Park Place was still going strong as an eight-year-old in 1997 when he won 15 races, including a pair of Opens at Pompano Park before a second place finish in that Florida track’s $160,500 Isle Of Capri Final.
In 1997 he also took the $63,000 Invite at Western Fairway in Canada before posting a number of victories on the Chicago circuit racing out of the barns of Michael Clouw and Guy Calvert.
Currently owned by Fair Meadows Farm of Altamont, Illinois and Paradise Inc. of Las Vegas, Park Place began his stallion career in 2008 and has produced 60 winners of $100,000 or higher and 124 horses who have bettered 1:55.
Thus far Park Place’s fastest foals are Buckeye One (1:48.1, $967,537), Oliver Cleo (1:48.1, $223,572), One Park Place (1:49.2, $198,972), Martha Maxine (1:49.2, $731,079) and Rakin N The Bucks (1:49.4, $271,402.
Among his many sons and daughters currently racing at Balmoral Park are Heath (1:52.2, $180,746), Rev Me Up (1:51.2, $434,418), Pretty Place (1:53.4) and Wilson’s Tracks (1:54.2).
