Auniqueaquistion Favored in $122,000 Pace (06/14/13)

The talented sophomore filly Auniqueaquistion has her sights set on shedding her role as the bridesmaid in the major stake races when she takes on seven ICF rivals in the $122,000 Maywood Filly Pace Friday night.

Auniqueaquistion has won more than half (7-for-13) of her career starts and has banked over $130,000 for her Iowa owner John Carver but as a freshman was second best in her three biggest races—the Orange & Blue Filly Final, the Violet, and an American National, and again took the runner-up role in this year’s Violet Final a few weeks ago when she got locked-in and pushed back, ending up a length behind.

“I blame that loss on me,” said driver Mike Oosting. “I had to battle at 60-1 longshot in the early going who had no business leaving. I didn’t want to use my filly extremely hard in the early going in just her second start of the year so I ended up behind that longshot filly and got bottled-up in the lane, coming up a little short.

“I think Auniqueaquistion is the filly to beat in Friday’s final because I have a very usable horse and that’s important,” continued the Michigan native who turned 52 two weeks ago.

“Donna Lee (trainer Ozment) has done a real good job with her. Last year the filly had some health issues and didn’t always finish the way she can. That’s not a problem this year.”

I asked Mike how his filly was on Maywood’s smaller oval.

“She doesn’t have any problem on a half,” he replied.

“I had her all over the track in her (winning) elimination. I left with her. We were three-wide in the first turn. I ducked her back in. I didn’t like where I was sitting so I moved her again.

“ I didn’t really want to drive her that way in an elimination but sometimes you have to flex your muscles a little bit and let them (the other drivers) know what you have out there on the racetrack.”

Auniqueaquisiion drew nicely with the two-slot in the Friday seventh race headliner and opens as the 7-5 morning line choice.

She’ll be challenged by State Street Liz (programmed 10-1, Bobby Smolin), Zumba (10-1, Casey Leonard), Feel Like Dancing (3-1, Kyle Wilfong), R Ciao Baby (15-1, Casey Leonard), Big Zipper (5-1, John de Long), Mystical Danica (12-1, Todd warren) and Five Stars Queen (8-1, Brian Carpenter).

A pair of Maywood Pace eliminations for ICF sophomore colts will decide next week’s finalists with the first four finishers in each moving on to the $100,000 championships.

Cardinal champion Fancy Creek Elusiv will open at even-money in the fifth race first split when he takes on Mysticval Walter (15-1), Crankin’ It Up (5-2), Fox Valley Norman (8-1), Fox Valley Christo (15-1) and Sage Ruck (9-2).

Squaring off in the six-horse eighth race division are Big Brad (7-5), Silver Devil (8-1), Fox Valley Action (8-5), Darth Quaider (9-2), Greg And Flex (20-1) and Colechester (15-1).
