A Trio of ICF Stakes Next (06/18/13)

Balmoral Park’s mid-week card Wednesday night will have a trio of ICF stakes for young horses with the first race opener the pari-mutuel debut for all nine freshman filly pacers.

The Incredible Tillie honors the Erv Miller trainee who went 12-for-12 as a 2-year-old in 1999 when she pulled down $512,782 in money won,

The first six horses in Wednesday’s Incredible Tillie—Linda On My Mind (programmed 9-2), Smashing Samantha (6-1), Green Valey (3-1), Sky Candy (12-1), Sara Pearl (15-1) and Perfectly Clear (10-1)—were scheduled to race in last week’s Misty Misty stake that was cancelled when heavy thunderstorms rolled into the Chicago area.

They’ll be joined in the Incredible Tillie by Fox Valley Roxanne (12-1), a sister to Fox Valley Ruby, Life On The Row (7-2), a home-bred who comes off a winning 1:59 qualifier at Springfield, and Fadeintothesunset (8-1), the fifth foal of the No Nukes mare Eternal Gift. Her best was My Gift To You (1:52.2), $459,842, a career 36-time winner.

The second race Star Slinger is the first pari-mutuel race for 5 of the 6 ICF freshman trotting fillies.

Bob Phillips’ Vienna (p.p. 6, Bobby Smolin) raced on Sunday in a maiden race against older horses but went off-stride in her debut.

Lining up against Vienna (7-2) are (from the one-slot out): Fox Valley Hosana (4-1, Brian Carpenter), BS Casino Cowgirl (10-1, Phil Knox), All Psyched Up (2-1, Ronnie Gillespie), S V Spirit (3-1, John Roberts) and Fox Valley Madly (10-1, Randy Crisler).

The home-bred All Psyched Up followed a won in 2:04.3 at Springfield on June 4 with a 17-length romp on the Decatur Fair Track half-mile oval in 2:06.2 six days later.

The sixth race $12,000 Betzotic for state-bred 3-year-old colts and geldings landed seven starters. The noticeable exception is division leader King Mufasa, who is taking the week off.

In from Pennsylvania for his first 2013 start in Illinois is the Erv Miller Stable’s Skyline Road (3-1, Casey Leonard) who was competing in open company. The son of Photo Color ripped off a winning 1:56.4 at Philadelphia earlier this month and then dropped a photo last Wednesday when he was timed in 1:54.3 at Pocono.

Powerful Poe (5-2, Todd Warren), the runner-up to King Mufasa in three ICF season stakes, is the 3-1 morning line favorite. The gelding was the division champion as a freshman when he won all the major ICF stakes and raked in over $155,000.

The first four slots will be manned by Semper Fit (5-1, Dave Magee), Powerful Valor (10-1, Jared Finn), Fox Valley Dubai (8-1, Mike Oosting) and Fox Valley Camo (9-2, Jamaica Patton).

The Gerry Hansen Stable’s Powerful Command (12-1, Dean Magee) has post six, sandwiched in between Powerful Poe and Skyline Road.
