The eight challengers to Mystical Victress in tonight’s $20,000 Sue Fee stake face a daunting task when they try to upset the Queen of Illinois racing in the seventh race feature.
The now six-year-old mare from the Erv Miller Stable is gunning for her 12th consecutive victory in a race against strictly other ICF fillies or mares.
You have to go all the way back to Time Dancer stake at Du Quoin in the summer of 2010 for the last time Mystical Victess lost a race to state-breds.
Mystical Victress was q three-year-old at that time. She’s six now and the Sportsmaster mare has captured three consecutive Super Night championships since, the last two Sue Fee stakes, and goes into Saturday’s stake with 41 career victories and $721,933 on her card for Indiana owners Mystical Marker Farms and Peggy Hood.
Mystical Victress has spent a portion of the last three years campaign out-of-state for Miller. She’s campaign at tracks out east like Woodbine, The Meadowlands, Pocono Downs, Tioga Downs and Chester, and also in Indiana where she won 2 of 3 Invites last year and was a little more than a neck short in the other.
With Marcus Miller now a fixture in Pennsylvania, Mike Oosting has taken over driving Mystical Victress in Illinois and he’ll guide her out of the six-slot in tonight’s 10-horse Sue Fee stake when she opens up as the 5-2 favorite.
The first five slots will be manned by Rev Me Up (4-1, John Roberts), China Gal (6-1, Kyle Wilfong), Tamarac Sassy (8-1, Casey Leonard), Dee Dee Sage (8-1, Todd Warren) and Makena Cat (15-1, Dean Magee).
Party Hanover (5-1, Kyle Husted), Fox Valley Matinee (8-1, Brian Carpenter) and Fox Valley Absolut (10-1, Bobby Smolin) has posts 7, 8 and 9, in that order.
While Mystical Victress is going after her third straight title as the Queen of the older ICF mares, Fort Silky has taken over this year as the “King” of the older ICF colts and geldings.
Fort Silky (programmed 7-5) goes after his fourth consecutive victory in tonight’s second race $17,000 Invitational and his sixth win in the open company Invites this year for the Leonard Stables.
The 7-year-old homebred easily disposed of his ICF rivals in his last two starts, winning the a $28,534 division of the Aged Cardinal stake at Maywood and then last Saturday’s $30,000 Broadway Preview at Balmoral.
It’s only June yet Fort Silky has already surpassed his previous best money winning season (2011) by $7,682 with $120,151 banked thus far for his Paw Paw, Illinois owners John Prentice and Neva Jane Ikeler,
Fort Silky and driver Casey Leonard were assigned the outside six-slot in Saturday’s Invite with Old Man River (10-1, Dave Magee), Gibbs (8-1, Todd Warren), Major Monet (6-1, Dale Hiteman), Lennox Blue Chip (9-2, Bobby Smolin) and Best Man Hanover (5-2, Mike Oosting) landing the first five slots.
The Price is Right: Last night’s first race winner Up Town Lady was a $17.80 top choice Mike Paradise Price Shot winner and when the best bet of the Friday night Tracy’s Hero won the second at Maywood it completed a winning $41.40 Daily Double.
