Auniqueaquisition Has Bounced Back (07/21/13)

Posted Sunday July 21, 2013

                                                   By Mike Paradise

We’ll have to wait until next weekend to see Aliyah Maria and Auniqueaquisition renew their rivalry in the ICF 3-year-old filly pace division. The talented pair of fillies drew into different division of Sunday’s Ann Vonian eliminations.

While both fillies will be heavy favorites at post time into their respective divisions Violet champion Aliyah Maria carries a four-race winning streak into the fourth race while Maywood Filly Pace victor Auniqueaquisition’s four race winning streak ended when she was surprisingly distanced in the July 6 Ohyouprettything.

However, Auniqueaquisition bounced back in a big way when she drew off in a $26,300 Hanover last week in a career fastest mile of 1:52.2 for trainer Donna Lee Ozment.

I asked driver Mike Oosting what happened to the filly who suddenly stopped while in contention two weeks ago.

“She developed an irregular heartbeat in that race,” Mike replied. “I knew right away sometime was wrong and I wanted to pull her up but if she didn’t finish the race completely she would have to re-qualify. I took a chance and just eased her around the race track.

“The judges wanted to have her re-qualify anyway but since she had a (Hanover) stake race coming up they told Donna we could work out the filly to their satisfaction before the Wednesday qualifiers and if she checked out okay they would allow her to race.

“She performed well so the judges let Donna go ahead and race the filly and as you saw she was just fine.

“The good thing was her heart beat went back to normal by the time they finished bathing her that night it happened, which was real encouraging. Sometimes they don’t and they’ll need treatments to get the right heart rhythm back. Fortunately, she didn’t.”

Mike is taking Sunday off so Dave Magee gets the catch drive behind Auniqueaquisition in her elimination where only a fifth or better finish is needed to advance to next week’s $60,000 Final.

Taking on Auniqueaquisition (progrramed 8-5) is State Street Liz (5-2, Bobby Smolin), R. Ciao Baby (8-1, Casey Leonard), Fox Valley Ruby (12-1, Dean Magee), The Bruzilian Blue (8-5. Brian Carpenter), Dune In Red (10-1, John De Long), Lizzabelle (15-1, Dale Hiteman) and Mystical Danica (4-1,Lewayne iMiller).

One race earlier the Roger Welch Stable’s streaking Aliyah Maria (programmed 2-1, Todd Warrew)meets Feel Like Dancing (3-1, Kyle Wilfong), Dallas Jones (4-1, Casey Leonard), My Marisa Clair (12-1, Phil Knox), Big Zipper (6-1, Bobby Smolin), Incredible Filly (10-1, Mike Cox), Thank You Doc (8-1, Dean Magee) and Butterfly Kisser (15-1, Dave Magee).
