Holdingallthecards Could Ace His Maywood Bow (07/31/14)

 Posted Thursday, July 31, 2014

                                                      By Mike Paradise

The Bob Phillips Stable’s Holdingallthecards, winner of one-third of his career starts and nearly $250,000 in purse earnings in 2 and ½ seasons of racing, makes his career debut at Maywood Park Friday night.

The 5-year-old gelding opens as the low-end 9-5 morning line favorite in the featured ninth race after going postward 66 times in his career and coming away with 22 victories, including a lifetime best 1:50 flat clocking in late May at Balmoral Park.

Unraced as a two-year-old Holdingallthecards climbed up the through condition ranks as a three-year-old when he nailed down wins in 12 of 21 starts highlighted by a December triumph in the Invitational ranks against the likes of such heavyweights as St Elmo Hero and Al’s Hammered, earning him a journey to the east coast as a 4-year-old.

In the early part of 2013 the gelding rattled off six consecutive wins at The Meadowlands that included a sweep of the Clyde Hirt Series and its $67,400 Final. He also won his first two legs of the Exit 16W Series before faltering in that final.

Holdingallthecards spent most of the rest of his 4-year-old campaign in New York at Yonkers where he picked-up a couple of more wins and gained half-mile experience.

The horse came back to Phillips and his home base at Balmoral for 2014 where he was second best in a June 28 Invite on the Crete, IL big-track for his Wisconsin owners William and Richard Mc Intyre.

Regular driver Bobby Smolin will be in the bike tonight when Holdingallthecards leaves from post two against a solid field comprised of Firstclassallthway (programmed 5-2), Bettors Curse (12-1), Real Hero (6-1),  Get Goin Mel (10-1), Tiza Mojo (9-2) and the Dave Mc Caffrey trained entry of Turn It Up Loud and Chewy Baca at 8-1.

Hanover Fields Set: The draw is out for this weekend’s Hanover stakes for two-year-olds. Both paces will go on Saturday while the trotters share the Sunday spotlight with the $25,000 Mike’s A Mystery for ICF trotters ages three and upward.

Saturday’s $34,900 Hanover for freshman colts and geldings has a full field of 10 going postward but seven betting interests with a three horse Nelson Willis trained entry of Pathologist, Lima Real Easy and Gold Star Image and The Roger Welch Stable’s one-two Min Me finishers—King Of The Swamp and Earndawg.

They’ll be tested by the Virgin Morgan trained invader Mohawk Warrior, along with Indian Outlaw, Lucpark, Bubba Tells All and Casey At Bat.

The fifth race $27,400 Hanover for juvenile filly follows with a small field of five youngsters. From the rail out you’ll find Lex, Angel Demon, Mr Leland’s Filly, BS Tyrichess and Duneside Perttie. All five are ICF fillies.

Sunday’s second race $29,500 Hanover 2-year-old filly trot lured Fox Valley Yoko, Powerfulebbrowning, PT Kaye, Sloane Elise, Rose Run Quiana and Lima Pizaz.

The fourth race $28,800 for first season colt and gelding trotters will line up with Powerful Above All, Air Force Blue, Southerncomfortzone, Broadway Emotion, Cruisin Valor, Bulldog Benji and Gabe Three Chins.
