County Fair Report (06/28/10)

Posted Monday June 28, 2010

                                                                 County Fair Report

The four-day meeting of racing at the Jasper County Fair in Newton, hosted by the Illinois Big-10 Colt Stakes Association,  began Sunday afternoon with a pair of Big 10 trotting events for three-year-olds and both turned out to be no-doubt-about-it affairs . . . In the $4,251 opener for fillies Dave Avenatti’s Fox Valley Siena followed her Downstate Classic victory in Decatur by breezing to a 12-plus length victory in 2:02.2 at Newton. The daughter of Vaporize was driven by her trainer who shares ownership with breeder Orien Brown of Oakland, Illinois. . . The $3,909 sophomore colt division was a romp in the park for J D Finn’s Smoken Homer, who drew off by more than 28 lengths with his 2:05 front-end victory. Jared Finn drove for trainer JD who owns the gelding with Dennis Gardner of Mt. Erie, Illinois . . . The fastest mile of the afternoon was by the seven-year-old mare Tinkers Damn, who sped to a 2:00 victory in the Open Pace with driver-trainer Michael Knicley for owner and breeder Randall Denham of Windsor, Illinois. The mare’s time with three full seconds faster than any other winner on the card . . . Racing at Newton Illinois continues Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons with a 1 pm first post. County Fair racing at Rushville will be Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons with three Mid-West Racing Association championships to be decided on the opening Tuesday night program that has a 7 o'clock first race post and five more on the Wednesday afternoon taht begins at noon.
