ICF Freshman Fillies Test Maywood (07/01/10)Posted Thursday, July 1, 2010 The first of only three state-bred stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies for the entire Maywood Park season will head-up Thursday night’s card. It’s the Juxtaposition and two $7,000 divisions will be contested in races two and seven. The morning line has the John Butenschoen trained pair of first-time starters Fox Valley Pheobe (Marcus Miller) and Fox Valley Nala (Gary Rath) as the heavy 6-5 favorites with the Kristopher Reynolds trainee Scarlet (Todd Warren) next at also low 7-5 odds. The youngster with the most small track experience in the race is Curtis Rice’s Little Miss Henry (Casey Leonard) who will open at 4-1 odds. The daughter of Henry Clay was second best in a fair race at Marshall in early June and the runner-up in another race at Decatur. Little Miss Henry also gave a good account of herself in her Misty Misty Misty stake division on June 16 when she came home in :27.1 and ended up only a half length behind Little Maeve. A week later she was second best to the same Roger Welch trained winning filly in the $11,000 Incredible Tillie. The first Juxtaposition split is rounded out with a trio of programmed longshots Chickiechickiewawa (15-1, John De Long), Cocoa (30-1, Jamaica Patton) and Primrose Path (20-1, Trenton Watson). The second division has three juvenile fillies—Fox Valley Sedona (3-1, Lavern Hostetler), Fox Valley Dublin (7-2, Terry Skinner and Tuff Rose (5-2, Brian Carpenter)—as the early morning line favorites. Fox Valley Sedona came within a whisker of capturing her Misty Misty Misty split a few weeks ago but then had to buck Balmoral’s 10-hole in the Incredible Tillie where she was pushed to a: 56 flat first half before she finished a tiring fourth. The filly is the fourth foal of C Suzabelle and broodmare’s first was the multi-stake champion Kelly’s Keepsake (1:51.2) who is currently racing in Canada with over $527,000 on her card in less than four seasons of racing. Fox Valley Dublin has a trio of June victories on half-mile fair tracks and raced first up when she ended up third in her Balmoral debut last week. She’s the younger sister of Maywood Filly Pace finalist Fox Valley Dazzle. Tuff Rose, bred, owned and trained by Stan Miller, dominated her June 23 Balmoral qualifier when she drew off by almost 15 lengths and the 1:59 mile did come on a sloppy track. The chestnut home-bred will also take on Red Hot N Sassy (6-1, Jamaica Patton), Run Tell Dat (8-1, Mike Cox), Let’s Go Higher (10-1, John De Long) and Fox Valley Rumba (8-1, Marcus Miller). Spotlight on Colts Friday: The ICF freshman pacing colts and geldings get their initial Maywood Park test on Friday’s program with a pair of $7,000 splits of the Enzo The Baker stake that lured Nelson Willis’ Filled With Wonder (race two), a 1:56.3 victor when he debuted in a division of the Wicked Brew, and Bruce Pacitti’s Little Pauli (race seven), the runner-up after breezing in Balmoral’s first two ICF season stakes that included a 26.3 last panel in the youngster’s 1:57 debut on June 6 in the Jimmy Sunshine. Maywood’s Popular Series Begins: Friday’s $30,000 Cook County stake is the first leg of the Maywood Pacing Series with its $20,000 bonus to the owners of the horse who accumulates the most total points in the three legs the of the series. The Egyptian will be raced on August 27 and The Associates in mid-November. Tomorrow’s likely favorite Thisbigdogwilfight (John De Long) was the series champion in both 2007 and 2008 for trainer Jim Eaton and comes off a 1:50.3 victory last Saturday, the now seven-year-old’s fifth Free For All triumph in as many tries this season at Balmoral. Among the seven challengers is the recent $30,000 Broadway Preview champion Well To Do Guru. We’ll have more on the pride of the Terry Leonard stable in Friday’s Notes and Quotes column.
