Freshman Stake Favorites Taylored for Success (08/03/10)Posted Tuesday August 3, 2010 By Mike Paradise Pardon the pun but a couple of “Taylor-Made” two-year-olds are the morning line favorites in Wednesday’s first two major stakes for first season state-bred trotters at Balmoral Park. Unbeaten My Miss Caroline heads up the $49,500 Fox Valley Flan for Illinois bred fillies while her stable-mate Detailer, fresh off a convincing maiden victory, is the colt too beat in the $48,000 Plesac for male trotters. Both freshmen are trained by part-owner Robert Taylor and will have regular driver will be back at their lines My Miss Caroline, a daughter of Physic Spirit out of the pacing bred broodmare Miss Clara T, was five lengths the best when she bowed in a division of Balmoral’s Vaporize stake on July 11 with a snappy 1:58.2 clocking and a week ago she was a romping 8 and 1 /2 length victor in the Fox Valley Flan elimination in 1:59.2 under a hold. My Miss Caroline was purchased by Taylor and fellow Tennessean Kevin Dixon, and also La Bella Vista Stables of Morris, IL as a yearling and is programmed at 8-5 in the fourth race. Taylor and Dixon also bought into the homebred Detailer last season and got a quick dividend check of $2,000 when the son of Armbro Tropicana breezed by more than 11 lengths in a freshman condition race at Balmoral on July 21. Detailer is also owned by breeder Robert and Taylor Rietveld of Bourbonnais, IL and will open as the 5-2 sixth race choice. Rieveld’s broodmare Just Having Fun, a daughter of Royal Prestiage, earlier produced Justice Hall (1:54.4, $768,001), a son of Garland Lobell who was the 2004 Hanover stake champion when he campaigned for C. Kevin Thomas, and the Illinois bred trotter Justa Rebel (1:54.2, $125,542), a son of Valley Victor formerly of the Merv Chupp Stable (Crete, IL) currently racing on the east coast for trainer Joe Anderson.. Trainer and part-owner Pamela Coleman has a triple threat in the Plesac with the 3-1 second choice three-horse entry of Powerful Tom (Art Gregory Jr.), Powerful Position (Brian Carpenter) and Powerful Charger (Todd Warren, all bred by co-owner Jerry Graham of Salem, IL. “Charger” prepped for the Plesac with a winning 2:01.1 mile on the Charleston County Fair, the fastest ever for a freshman gelded trotter on any Illinois fair track. Hammer Head (5-1, Marcus Miller), Anthonyskywalker (12-1, Brent Ballinger), Fox Valley Arrow (10-1, Dale Hiteman), Skippy Jim John (4-1, Del Chupp) and Big Brown (6-1, Mike Oosting) complete the sixth race the Plesac showdown . Taking on My Miss Caroline (p. p. 4) in the fourth race Fox Valley Flan finale are two more Robert Taylor trained fillies—the entry of Fox Valley Helena (7-2, John Lewis) and Fox Valley Mesa (7-2, Marcus Miller), along with Bonnie’s Star (8-1, Del Chupp), Search For Reality (6-1, Mike Oosting), Red Victress 10-1, (J D Finn), Powerfulconnection (8-1, Todd Warren), Capture The Moment (20-1, Leroy Miller) and Cooper Doll (15-1, Tom Busse). Owned and trainer by Tom Grummel of Carrolton, IL, Bonnie’s Star took a division of Balmoral’s Vaporize last month and drew a bye into the Plesac Final. A Pricy Second: Mike’s Price Shots delivered the 55 to 1 second place finisher My Heart Was True (Jamaica Patton) in Saturday’s Ann Vonian Final, beaten 1 ½ lengths by Ms Maggie. We had 3 of the 5 numbers that produced a whopping $15,080 Hi Five payoff. To view Archived Notes and Quotes click here.
