Surprisingly Big Turnout for Egyptian (08/26/10)Posted Thursday August 26, 2010 By Mike Paradise Well To Do Guru and Thisbigdogwilfight, the one-two horses in the Cook County first series leg drew the one and two posts, respectively and figure to grab a large portion of the betting public’s money. And so will the (Marty) Engle Stable’s Mucho Sleazy who had been campaigning out east this season against some rugged competition. The now five-year-old son of Sportsmaster looks to be in good shape Friday with the four-slot and is reunited with driver Mike Oosting. Also looking for a bit of an upset in Friday’s ninth race feature are Sports Fanatic (Art Gregory Jr), Smiling Bob (Brian Carpenter), Fort Silky (Marcus Miller), Omaha Survivor (Dave Magee), Indescribable (Dale Hiteman) and Rich N Flashy (TBA) who will start in the second tier. I guess the more I think about it I shouldn’t be totally shocked by the large field for The Egyptian. After all, The Egyptian’s $30,000 pot is a nice purse to shoot for especially when you consider that a horse would have to win three $10,000 Free For All Pace events at Balmoral to earn the same amount of money as Friday night’s Egyptian victor. Thisbigdogwilfight has captured already capotured a half-dozen For All Alls this season on the Crete, IL big track including a 1:49.3 clocking last Saturday, his third consecutive victory. One of the seven-year-old gelding’s four losses in 14 season starts came in the Cook County when he did finish first but was disqualified to second behind Well To Do Guru for a pylon violation. Todd Warren, who is 4-for-4 with Thisbigsogwilfight, is back at his lines Friday for Illinois owners Rosebud Stable and Michael Mc Neely. The venerable pacer won the Maywood Pacing Series in both 2007 and 2008 for trainer Jim Eaton. On the other hand Mucho Sleazy has had plenty of success everywhere but at Maywood Park. The horse has never won a race on the circuit’s half-miler. “He’s had a number of races this year at Chester which is a five-eighths oval and maybe that’ll help him at Maywood,” said owner Marty Engle. “It’s been tough racing him on the east coast, though. Last Saturday Mucho Sleazy paced in 1:49.1 at The Meadowlands and all he got was a fifth place finish.” Mucho Sleazy has made over $70,000 this season and his career earnings of $876,796 are tops in the field with Thisbigdogwilfight close behind at $845,144. Both horses will get familiar with each other over the next few weeks with another Super Night showdown looming just three weeks away on September 18. “We wanted to get Mucho Sleazy a start before the Super Night eliminations so The Egyptian came up perfectly for him,” added the Buffalo Grove, IL owner. “If we choose we can give the horse next week off and then put him in the Super Night (Maurello) eliminations the following Saturday (September 11) at Balmoral.” Mucho Sleazy posted his lifetime mark of 1:48 flat in his Springfield State Fair elimination as a three-year-old. He went on to capture the final in 1:48.4 and a little more than a month latter nailed down his first of two consecutive Super Night Championships in the $165,000 Pete Langley Memorial Final (1:50 flat) enroute to a banner 2008 season for Marty that saw the horse pull down $474,255 in purse earnings. In his four-year-old campaign Mucho Sleazy made it back-to-back Super Night titles when he took $125,000 Tony Maurello Championship for older ICF pacers in 1:49.3 at 9-1 odds over heavy favorite Martha Maxine.
