In Memoriam Updates:

 

   Lyle Loman

Lyle Loman, 68, of Broadlands died at 9AM Tuesday (May 6, 2008) at his home in Broadlands. 

Joines-Appleby Funeral Home of Newman is in charge of arrangements (217) 837-2624).

Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5 to 8PM at Heritage High School, 206 E. Diller, Broadlands, IL.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at Heritage High School, 206 E. Diller, Broadlands, IL.,  in the Steven Allen Hall, and Dave Fox will officiate.  Burial will be in the Fairfield Cemetery, north of Newman.

Mr. Loman was born May 6, 1940, in Tuscola, a son of Raymond and Margaret  Loman.  His father preceded him in death and his mother survives.  He married Sue Meadows on August 25, 1962 in Tuscola.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Brian (Tedra) Loman of Broadlands and Bret Loman of Fishers, IN.; two grandchildren, Madigan and Blake Loman; and a sister, Pacie Trimble of Monticello.

Lyle was a graduate of Newman High School.  He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a master's degree in physical education.  He coached in the ABL and Heritage school districts for 42 years and was a teacher in the area for 14 years.  In 1981, he started Loman Insurance Agency in Broadlands.

He was inducted into the Illinois High School Basketbell Hall of Fame in 2007.  He has served as mayor of Broadlands, as well as on the town board.  He was a member of the Broadlands Community Club and also served on the board of the directors in the Central Illinois Mutual Insurance Company.

Mr.  Loman was an avid Standardbred horse racing fan.  He was a member of the IHHA, and he was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lyle Loman Scholarship fund.

 

  Lyle McGilveary

Lyle McGilveary died March 10, 2008, at the age of 61.

He was the beloved husband of wife Sue of Hanover, Ontario; loving father of Chris (wife Laurie) of Ypsilanti, Michigan and daughter Jody (partner Jamie Litt) of Everton, Ontario. Grandfather of Keven Pendred, Kayla Hendry, and Zach, Tristan and Karleigh Litt.

He is also survived by brothers Herb (Elizabeth) of Chesley, Ontario, Murray (Donna) of Grand Island, N.Y., Lawrence (Arlene) of Tonawanda, N.Y., and Vern (Lorraine) of Durham, Ontario; sisters, Blanche Beckett (John Shields) of Chesley, Ontario, Reta (Bev) Steward of Chesley, Ontario, Sharon (Art) Becker of Durham, Ontario; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17, at Cameron Funeral Home, Chesley, Ontario, from 7:00–9:00 p.m. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, also at Cameron Funeral Home, followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery, Tara, Ontario.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Agency and/or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

  Julia "Kay " Roberts

Julia “Kay” Roberts, 66, a former executive director of the Indiana Standardbred Association (ISA) and long a stalwart in Indiana harness racing, died this past Monday at a Beech Grove, Ind. hospital.

She was a graduate of Ball State University, and after 20 years of service to the Indiana harness racing Industry, she retired as executive director of the ISA in 2006. She was the recipient of the Indiana Sagamore of the Wabash and Kentucky Colonel awards, and received various honors for outstanding service to the Standardbred racing industry.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristen (David) Blankenship of Indianapolis; a son, David (Alisa) Perrel of Anderson, Ind.; five grandchildren; three brothers, Eddie Roberts of Pendleton, Ind., Richard Roberts of Wilkinson, Ind., and Charles Roberts of Wilkinson; a sister, June Neal of Wilkinson; several nieces and nephews; and former husband Dr. Neil Perrel of Muncie.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 10 a.m., at the Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson, Ind., and burial will follow in Eden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday.

  Omar L. Jackson

Omar L. Jackson 50 years old of Carlinsville died Thursday, March 22, 2007.  Born December 29th, 1956.  Son of Harvey and Betty Eyer Jackson. Survivors: companion - Cheri Clossen of Carlinsville; son- Jacob W. Jackson of Argyle, IA.  Five (5) brothers: Darrell (Cheri Eyer) of FL.; David (Ruth) Jackson of Franklin, IL.; Dennis Jackson of Jacksonville, IL; Clyde F. (Margaret) Jackson of Clarksville, TN. and Harvey W. Jackson of Hettick, IL.  Three (3) sisters: Diane (Bob) Bettif of Modesto; Penney Jackson of Springfield and Michelle Axley of Clarksville, TN.

Visitation Saturday March 24, 2007, between 11am-12pm (noon) at the Davis -Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinsville, IL.  Graveside service to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra, IL.

Mt. Sterling, Illinois:
Richard Bruce “Butch” Bowen age 26 of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.
He was born November 30, 1980 in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Butch worked for KHQA Television as a sports cameraman for the last year and had also worked at U. S. Cellular in Quincy, Illinois. He grew up working at the horse barn with his dad and continued to train horses and later received his United States Trotting Association License to race trotters and pacers.
Butch was a graduate of Brown County High School with the class of 1999 and also attended John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois on a baseball scholarship.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Sterling and through his church attended the Hinton Rural Life Center in Haysville, North Carolina for 4 years and worked as a counselor there for 2 summers. He also attended Catholic Heart Work Camp on 2 occasions. Butch served as a volunteer fireman for the Mt. Sterling Fire Department and was a certified storm chaser. He was very musically gifted and taught himself to play the piano by ear. Butch was an avid sports lover who touched the lives of so many area young people while serving as a referee and coach in the youth athletic programs. He had a truly giving nature and was always willing to assist someone in need and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his father Alan R. Bowen and his stepmother Jacalyn of Mt. Sterling. His fiancé Lynsey Edwards of Mt. Sterling. His maternal grandmother Virginia C. Pulse of Mt. Sterling. His paternal grandparents Harvey and Darlene Bowen of Mt. Sterling. His step grandmother Marjorie Hyer of Mendon, Illinois. 2 brothers Douglas Alan Bowen and David Michael Brink both of Mt. Sterling. 3 sisters Sarah Ann Crenshaw and his her husband Blake of Mt. Sterling, Carol Jean Oeser of Chatham, Illinois and Pamela Jean Monroe of Mt. Sterling. 3 aunts Patty Henken and her husband Paul, Peggy Huston and her husband Kevin and Carolyn Pulse all of Mt. Sterling. 2 uncles Steve Pulse and his companion Rosemary of Chambersburg, Illinois and Larry Bowen and his wife Susan of Mt. Sterling. Several cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pamela Sue Pulse Bowen, his paternal grandfather Bruce H. Pulse, 1 uncle Mike Pulse and 1 cousin Jeffrey Peacock.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2007 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Pastor Ron Cox, Pastor Bob Einhouse and Father Thomas Henseler officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery.
Friends may call any time after 1:00 on Wednesday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with the family meeting friends from 4:00 until 8:00 Wednesday evening. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Brown County Youth Baseball.
